Professor Majid Samii, the world renowned Iranian neurosurgeon, has been scheduled to open the new academic year at Guilan University of Medical Sciences (GUMS).
 
 
 


Professor Majid Samii, the world renowned Iranian neurosurgeon, has been scheduled to ring in the new academic year at Guilan University of Medical Sciences (GUMS).

Professor Samii, along with his accompanying delegation from Germany, is slated to participate in the opening ceremony of the academic year at the school of Medicine of GUMS on Tuesday. 

The top neurosurgeon arrived in Guilan Province in north of Iran late on Monday. He was invited to Guilan TV, the local TV station of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), where he talked to people in a live televised program.

Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by Professor Shahrokh Yousefzadeh, the chancellor of GUMS, and other officials from the university and the province.

During his two-day visit, Professor Samii plans to visit different parts of the university and deliver lectures at the schools of GUMS. Visiting the Neurosurgery department and Neuroscience research center of the university are among the main visits of Professor Samii and his accompanying German delegation.

Signing an agreement to develop and enhance bilateral cooperation and links between GUMS and the International Neuroscience Institute (INI), which is presided over by Professor Samii, is among the main purposes of the top neurosurgeon's visit.

INI is based in Hanover, the capital and largest city of the German state of Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), and provides health care of the highest quality for diseases of the nervous system.

Born in 1937 in the city of Rasht, Professor Samii received his MD in neurosurgery at the age of 33. The top neurosurgeon has been the president of the International Society for Neurosurgery and was elected as the founding president of the Congress of International Neurosurgeons in 2003. The top scientist in neurological surgery also garnered the 2014 Golden Neuron Award.
