The department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of Guilan University was founded in 1936.

The ultimate goals for the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care are to:

• provide highest standard of medical care on an individual patient oriented basis;

• deliver professional, high-quality teaching in anesthesia and intensive care;

• carry out clinical and basic frontline research.

The clinical responsibilities of the Department are to:

• evaluate patients preoperatively, give anesthesia, and survey the postoperativecourse;

• provide intensive care treatment;

• provide emergency and trauma care and be actively engaged in disaster planning and leadership;

• provide pain treatment on a multidisciplinary basis;

• provide assistance, on a consulting basis, in solving fluid and nutritional problems as well as in drawing up guidelines for central venous catheter techniques and materials.

More than 150 persons work at the Department. The different categories are:

• Physicians:35; 18 specialists and 17 residents.

• Certified anesthetic nurses: 40

• Certified intensive care nurses: 48

• Nurse assistants in anaesthesia: 12

• Nurse assistants in intensive care: 16

Every year more than 10000 patients are anesthetized, and more than 1000 patients are treated in the Intensive Care Unit.

GUMS anesthesia is a special disscusion group for anesthesiologists providers to disscus issues related to :  General Anesthesia, Regional Anesthesia, Anesthesia Preventive issues, Airway Management, Clinical Pharmacology, Critical Care, Pain Management, etc.

This site is open also for Surgeons, Internists, Pharmacologists, Cardiologists, Radiologists, Physiologists, Nurses, ect. to disscus issues  related to anesthesia.

This site contains brief summaries of a variety of jurnal articles, as well as, basic anesthesia information.

GUMS anesthesia is completly nonpolitical, focused only on the advancement and support of education and scientific researches related to anesthesia.
